A centre of learning where education is imparted in the traditional Indian way. Within the precincts of the University is the Ved Mandir which houses many archaeological exhibits. Located in the religious place of Haridwar, Haridwar - Jwalapur bypass road. The Ved Mandir Museum with archaeological exhibits in display can also be seen.

Swamy Shradhanand of the Arya Samaj was the founder of the Institute during the British rule in India, on March 4, 1902. At the time of its establishment, GKV had high held commitments of reviving the ancient Gurukula system of education. Over the past 106 years, the Institute observed a phenomenal growth and has also earned a good name and repute in the international education arena as well. GKV is on the list of recognized Institutes of UGC and is also a member of the AIU.

Establishment and Objective
Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya was founded on March 4, 1902 by Swami Shraddhanandaji with the sole aim to revive the ancient Indian Gurukula System of education, on the bank of Ganges at a distance of about 6 km. from Hardwar and about 200 km. from Delhi. This institution was established with the objective of providing an indigenous alternative to Lord Macaly's education policy by imparting education in the areas of vedic literature, Indian philosophy, Indian culture, modern sciences and research.
Arya Samaj has been advocating women's education since the day it was founded. As part of its policies for the up-liftment of women in the country, Kanya Gurukula Mahavidyalaya, Dehradun was established in 1922 by Acharya Ramdevji as a second campus of women's education. To give real shape to the dreams of Swami Shraddhanandaji, a new campus for women's education, Kanya Gurukula Mahavidyalaya, Hardwar was established in 1993 for PG classes for girls.
Gurukula has witnessed many distinguished guests in its journey till date. To name a few of them are C.F. Andrews, Former Prime Minister of Britain, Mr. Remjy Mcdonald, Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr Radha Krishnan, Jamnalal Bajaj,Dr. Munje, Sadhu Vaswani,Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Smt. Indira Gandhi and Gyani Jail Singh.

(a) Deemed University Status : The distinguished services of this institution to the nation were recognized when it was given the status of Deemed to be University in 1962 by University Grants Commission.
(b) Four Star Status : National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) has awarded four star status to the Vishwavidyalaya in 2002.
(c) Centenary Year : Vishwavidyalaya celebrated year 2002 as its centenary year. The Vishwavidyalaya has had phenomenal growth over the past 100 years and now offers 20 UG courses and 17 PG courses in different disciplines. Accommodation/Hostel Facilities
A Hostel for accommodating boys is located at the Campus. A separate hostel for girls is available at Dehradun Campus.
Recreation
The Recreation and sports facilities Courts for Lawn Tennis, Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Badminton and Cricket are available and being availed by the students.
Catering / Mess : Adequate Catering/Mess facilities are provided at the hostels.
Health and Welfare : Adequate medical attendance facilities are provided for at the Campus in the form of Govt. Hospital.
Computing
The Faculty has one of the most sophisticated computer centres equipped with the latest version of hardware and software. Presently it has pentium connected with Laser, Inkjet and Dot Matrix Printers. The computer dome is also connected with internet.
Library
Faculty has well equipped library with a wide range of management and computers books. The library also takes pride in its collection of Audio-Video and CDs, Cassettes on various management related topics. In addition to standard books on management, the library is subscribing to a number of Indian and Foreign Journals, newspapers, magazines etc. The Total collection of library books is 5000 (approx) with a backing of central library and reference library having a hudge collection of more than 1.25 lakhs books and journals to feed the students of various Faculties.
ELIGIBILITY
Graduate (TDC) in any discipline with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST/GKV graduates) marks. Candidates appearing in the final year of qualifying examination may also apply.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
The selection to course is made by a written test conducted by the Vishwavidyalaya itself. Those desirous to apply can obtain application form from Registrar, Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Hardwar on a payment of Rs.100/-. Entrance test is held in the first week of June every year. Those who qualify in the written are called for Group Discussion and Interview in the first week of July every year.
