Bageshwar- A Place of Temples and Rivers

Bageshwar
Bageshwar is place of temples and rivers. Bageshwar is situated on the bank of two famous rivers Gomati and Saryu. Here most of the temples belong to the different Avatar of “Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati”, also well know as the pious land associated with Lord Sadashiva, the saviour of all sins.
Bageshwer is located in the northern parts of province of Uttarakhand.
Here you can view of Bhileshwar mountains in the East. Neeleshwar mountains in the West. Suraj Kund in the North and Agni Kund in the South.


For trekking partizan, Bageshwar is an important place. Trekkers who visit Pindari, Kaphni and Sundardhunga glaciers, should pass through Bageshwar.

Baghwath Temple: A the prominent temple in this region and famous for biggest Uttaryani Mela celebrated here on 14th of January and main activity in this mela is brisk trading.
Baijnath Temple:
Situated in the Katyuri valley, 19 Kms away from Kausani and 26 kms from Bageshwer. This temple is situated on the bank on Gomati river. It is the small but renowned ancient town of Baijnath. It was the capital of the Katyuri , called Kartikyapura. In Kumaun region, Baijnath is one of historical importance. The temple is famous for it's ancient and magnificent stone idol of the Hindu goddess “Maa Parvati”.
Vijaypur:

Situated 30 kms from Bageshwar on Bageshwar - Chaukori road. Having a bird’s-eye view of the snow capped Himalayan range from here.
Pandusthal: This place is situated 16 km from Harshil which is 12 km away from district headquarter. A lot of attractive natural sceneries are present here. There are many temples here which are believed to have been built by Pandavas. A famous fair is being conducted on the occasion of Krishna-Janmashtmi.
Kanda
This picturesque place attract nature lovers and is 25 kms from Bageshwar on Bageshwar – chaukori road.
Ancient Bhadrakali temple is near Kanda.
This is having an area of 2310 sq kms and the population is about 3 Lakh.
Anashakti Aashram Kausani: This aashram is situated in queen of mountain Kausani, which is entrance gate of Bageshwar district. Mahatma Gandhi had spent their 2 days in this aashram in 1925.
There are so many temples in Bageshwar district like Satyanarayan Temple, Kot Bhramri and Nanda Temple, Mool Narayan Temple (height-9126 ft.), Kashildev Temple, Nauling Temple Sangad, Ukhleshwar Mahadev Temple, Bhagwati temple, Kalika Mata Temple, Chilthamai Temple.
Kausani (height- 6000ft): This is situated on Bageshwar – Almora road. Mahatma Gandhi had spent their 14 days here. Kausani is Residence of famous poet Sumitranandan Pant. Here many tea gardens are also attraction point for tourists.

By Rail : Nearest railway station is Kathgodam, 165 kms.
By Road : Bageshwar is well connected with all the major towns and cities of Kumaon, Garhwal region and Delhi.
